Berlin [ENA] The German government offers journalists keen on energy reporting a five-day stipend to cover the Berlin energy week March 23-27. Under the fellowship participants attend the two-day Energy Transition Dialogue conference (BETD), interview powerful stakeholders, connect with other fellows and join guided tours plus side events in the German capital. Deadline for applications is February 2, according to GIZ organizers.

The BETD Media Fellowship is provided by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Foreign Ministry in cooperation with the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE). Journalists with a proven record of energy reporting and intermediate knowledge of English can apply for the fellowship. The BETD event will focus on the shift to a sustainable energy system, including geopolitics, green finance, market designs for renewables, carbon pricing and multilateral cooperation. Fellows receive a travel allowance including board and lodging. The Berlin government says BETD has become the leading international forum on the green energy transformation.

Every year, high-level participants from politics, industry, science and civil society gather in Berlin for two days to discuss the shift to a sustainable energy system. In this diverse international conference, scientific expertise meets with practical know-how, policymakers encounter civil society organizations, and young and experienced generations enrich each other by working hand in hand to accelerate the energy transition. BETD 2020 will focus on a Global Green Deal including geopolitics, green finance, market design for renewables, carbon pricing and multilateral cooperation and action.

Media fellows are invited to become part of the conference, report on the discussions and innovative energy solutions look behind the scenes of the global energy shift. During the conference, the BETD Media Fellows will report on the conference sessions through social media channels, especially Twitter, video clips, interviews and reports, and the official website. In addition, BETD Media Fellows will have the opportunity to submit photos, stories and interviews and to report on energy-related stories from their own countries, GIZ says adding that they will cover travel costs including board and lodging. The number of spaces is limited. (betd-fellows@giz.de)
